2010

Yearly recap time!

1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
started volunteering as an escort at women’s clinics. learned to touch my toes. had a suspicious mole removed. won a poker tournament.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
YES! My Year of Charity was a (personal) success. I’d like to set another resolution this year, but I’ll need to give some thought to what it should be.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Some internet friends, but I’m in a (short-lived) local friend baby lull.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada! Most of my trips this year were domestic.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More international trips. Good thing I just booked two of those! :)

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Probably my 30th birthday, because I wasn’t really looking forward to entering my 30s, but the night was so fantastic anyway.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I guess following through on my charity pledge. I’m not good at following through on, say, anything. That and touching my toes. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITING THAT IS FOR SOMEONE WITH HAMSTRINGS LIKE MINE.

9. What was your biggest failure?
see question 10...

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

HA. HA HA HA. HAHA. HAAAA.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
my macbook pro! and, uh, tailbone physical therapy.

12. Where did most of your money go?
Rent. And booze, probably.

13. What did you get really excited about?
the rally for sanity. and the Scavenger Hunt, every year!

14. What song will always remind you of 2010?
I’m not really one of those “music brings me back” people...

15. Compared to this time last year, are you:

happier or sadder? An interesting mix. Mostly happier, sad about some specific things.
thinner or fatter? Probably exactly the same.
richer or poorer? Richer. Yay!

16. What do you wish you’d done more of?

I don’t know that this answer is ever not “travel” for me.

17. What do you wish you’d done less of?

eat crappy food. I feel so much better – physically, and about myself –when I eat better.

18. How did you spend Christmas?
At home in NJ with my family, as usual.

19. What was your favorite TV program?
Criminal Minds!!

20. What were your favorite books of the year?
the Girl With A Dragon Tatoo series.

21. What was your favorite music from this year?

uh. um. maybe.. hmm. pass.

22. What were your favorite films of the year?
I, uh, guess I didn’t really see a lot of movies in theaters this year.

23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
partied with all my friends and my sister! The big 3-0.

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
immeasurably?? Nothing, really. I had a good year.

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
I literally have not brushed my hair in 2 days.

26. What kept you sane?
This is implying I am currently sane. I’m at work at 5:31pm on New Year's Eve, after working until 9pm last night. NOT SANE.

27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

Giving to charity is something I can and should be doing more of. I don’t think twice about dropping $50 on dinner and drinks out with my friends; I can easily put that money toward a good cause more frequently.

all in all, 2010 was pretty fantastic. considering 2011 is starting with a cruise AND a trip to south america with chris, it's looking pretty good too. happy new year!

  1. Happy New Year, Alice! :)
I understand all about tight hamstrings. I've got those in spades... er, genes. My 19yo finally touched his toes recently after working really hard at stretching. (I'm proud of him!)

  5. "I literally have not brushed my hair in 2 days."

And this is why I love you. Happy New Year!

I have a resolution for you: visit with relatively nearby friends more often, especially ones who are knocked up and less likely to travel this year themselves :)
