happy new year! and a sundry meme

hello everyone! happy new year! hooray 2008! the quarter and the year are closed, so i get to breathe again and relax and hey, maybe do some of this blogging that all the kids are talking about these days. i have 28375213756 pictures to load and share, but in the meantime i'll jump on the sundry bandwagon (uh.. yet again) and belatedly fill out the 2007 summary.

then! afterwards! xmas recap and new year's eve pictures. AND, happy new year to me, karl is finally back from months and months in south dakota (or.. 10 days. whatever) so i'm in a very good mood :-)

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before? got a kitten!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? i don't THINK i did. does anyone else remember me making any? i might have resolved to pay off my credit cards, WHICH I DID. i also paid off my car, so i am now DEBT FREE. well... except for the student loans. hush. so far i haven't resolved anything for 2008, except to maybe attempt going to the gym before work a few mornings a week (HAAAAAAAAA).

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? no, but i've got 2 scheduled to pop within the next few weeks!

4. Did anyone close to you die? no, i was lucky.

5. What countries did you visit? mexico! germany! austria!

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007? hmm.. perhaps my own place.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? i don't think there any particular big dates for me. my first date with karl was pretty good though :-)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? hmm. getting my own office at work? that sounds pretty lame, doesn't it. oh no wait! paying off my credit card and my car! how quickly i forget.

9. What was your biggest failure? not keeping up with piano or drums.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? minor illnesses aplenty, slightly more major injuries from my brief time attempting parkour, but nothing too awful.*

*please note, i did NOTHING LIKE this guy in the video. i went to a bootcamp where we were supposed to learn the basic skills that would one day let you learn to do stuff like that. so basically i hurt myself repeatedly by jumping around a padded gym.

11. What was the best thing you bought? my shoes! no wait, my camera!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? my sister graduated college with a bio-chem major, while working at a prominent lab in houston, dancing for a modern dance troupe, and tutoring on the side, and then got into the genetics phd program at stanford. that's pretty good, i'd say.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? name a celebrity, they probably made the list. also w, of course.

14. Where did most of your money go? rent, eating out, travelling..

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? my trip to europe.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007? i'm not very good at associating music with life events.. maybe "fidelity" by regina spektor though, since i played in on repeat from about january - august.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? i wasn't particularly UNhappy this time last year, but i'm very happy now.. so we'll go with happier.
b) thinner or fatter? ..the same? i think?
c) richer or poorer? richer! woo!

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? exercise. i feel sloth-like and have REALLY sucked at getting to the gym this year.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? working late.

20. How did you spend Christmas? with my nuclear family, as always.. i love our christmases.

21. Did you fall in love in 2007? yes :-)

22. What was your favorite TV program? Project Runway, of course.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? eh, hate's pretty strong. i don't think so.

24. What was the best book you read? is it lame to say Harry Potter book 7?

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Regina Spektor, thanks to my sister LAST christmas.

26. What did you want and get? 2 awesome trips abroad.

27. What did you want and not get? i don't know, i had a pretty good year. a winning lottery ticket, maybe? although i should have probably PLAYED the lottery if i wanted that to happen.

28. What was your favorite film of this year? i really liked 300, and i REALLY liked live free or die hard.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? i turned 27 the day i landed in Frankfurt to start a 10 day solo vacation through Germany and Austria.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? wow, immeasurably? i'm not sure. a new government? unlimited personal funds?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007? ha. i actually made a concerted effort to try to buy better quality clothes this year, but i'm about as fashion-clueless as always.

32. What kept you sane? ...wine?

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? i've never been a big celebrity fancier, but i did have a few surprising dreams about johnny depp recently so we'll go with him.

34. What political issue stirred you the most? i'm becoming increasingly apathetic about politics, since i sort of hate everyone involved in them at this point.

35. Who did you miss? i have a lot of friends scattered around the country.. so that list is pretty extensive

36. Who was the best new person you met? karl :-)

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007. man i suck at this type of question. umm... maybe.. ooh, how about "you really do get what you pay for." i've finally starting paying for "real" clothes, shoes, and cosmetics, and boy howdy does it actually make a difference.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. bah. no. jess didn't, so i'm not going to either.

  1. I like that I'm now a trendsetter when it comes to not quoting song lyrics. But you are a trendsetter when it comes to makeup, because I totally ordered that Bare Escentuals stuff! I'm so excited!

  8. Surely, there's SOMEONE you hate. For example, I hate the imbecile who thought gluing carpet to my hard wood floor in the KITCHEN was a good idea. But then, he's not a NEW hated person; I've hated him for almost 5 years now.
