The "Not-So-Olympic" Olympics

argh! you guys! work is killing me. which means that 6p on friday is when i get enough of a break to tell you about LAST weekend. lame.

anyway, last weekend was STUPENDOUS. it was a momentous occasion: the date of the First Annual "Not-So-Olympic" Olympics. basically: field day for adults. with beer. I KNOW, RIGHT? why aren't we doing this all the time!?

my brain is too fried to deal with words, so let's move straight to pictures. i put together my team:

(yes, we are Team BattleBots, and yes, our shirts are amazing, and hand-painted by goz's wife. goz is the one on the end there.)

we spent the day competing in "events" that Incredibly Awesome Organizer Ahsan (who also organizes our scavenger hunts every year!) had dreamed up, like relay races on tiny scooters after chugging some beer:

and being blindfolded, spun around 10 times, and then deposited in a circle where you had to find and chug a can of beer before your competitor:

or the one we basically ALL lost at, the slip n' slide tug-of-war:

the final event was a relay-race obstacle course which involved sprinting a course (while dodging water balloons being thrown at you), finishing the course by chugging half a beer, then trying to blow up a balloon. this is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. if you're already panting from the sprint, the chug definitely does NOT help you catch your breath. and then! blowing up a balloon! while you're being timed! lots of gasping happens. just, you know, fyi.

ahsan had a cardboard ring already waiting for you, and you had to blow the balloon up until it filled the ring.

once you had mildly recovered from that, each team member had to complete a challenge (trivia, quarters, flip cup, and beer pong), drink another half a beer, then go tag in the next teammate to start their leg of the relay.

we didn't exactly "win" (or "come in second") ("or third") but man, was it fun. locals: you should totally put together a team for next year and join us!

  1. Gracious, this sounds like the Beer Olympics. Looks like fun but wow I do not think I would enjoy it much. Not liking beer and all.

  2. This is easily the coolest and most inspired idea since the French revolution (it was about drinking wine and suffering from ennui, right?). I want in next year.

  6. "Field Day with Beer" sounds like Saturday to me... until I read your description after that... now all I can say now is, that's too much beer for this old lady. But it still sounds like fun!
Time to go drink beer and watch World Cup action...

  14. You are so adorable in your pigtails.

I think I am most definitely too old to participate in such activities... the whole time I'm reading it I'm thinking, "Wow, its amazing no one got hurt!" I'll go cane shopping with you.

  15. I rarely comment but have to jump in to say this is awesome. My college friends and I had a tradition long ago, right after we graduated, of doing a similar thing. We called it "F*ed up Field Day." We probably didn't have such organized activities, but some that were similar. And beer that was similar.

We promised each other that when were all old, we'd still be having that party, and would call it "Geriatric Jamboree." I think you're on your way!
