the OTHER best part of blogher

so obviously, the main reason i went to blogher and the reason it was such a good time for me was seeing / meeting / loving so many lovely lady bloggers. but the OTHER reason i am still giddy?

BECAUSE I MET TIM GUNN. OH YES I DID.

(note: if you don't know who tim gunn is.. i.. just.. no. when i told a friend yesterday that i'd met him, she went "who..??" and i was like "you know! from project runway!" she said "oh.. i think i've *heard* of that show...?" and then i told her we were no longer friends.)

this is 100% thanks to shelly, by the way, because i didn't even realize he was there doing a meet and greet. but once she showed me her signed photo i BOOKED IT down to the expo hall to get in line.

i was one of the very last people to hop in line before the cut off, and they started herding us through in groups (which is why i had to share my picture with those other women. who were very nice! just.. sniffle). tim had been there for over two hours by the time it was my turn, but you would never know it. he was SO nice, and talked to each of us individually, and signed pictures for each of us, all while talking in that adorable debonnaire manner he has on the show, which appears to be completely genuine and earnest.

i said something along the lines of how i couldn't believe he was still able to write after signing photos all afternoon, and he replied that he was just so energized and inspired being there, talking to all of us fascinating women, and we all had such interesting things to say and were doing such inspiring things online, that he was honored to be a part of it. and then i put him in my pocket and took him home with me.

well.. ok, so what i ACTUALLY did was ask him to sign a picture for my mom & sister, instead of made out to me, since i figured they'd be jealous enough that i got to meet him and talk to him and get a photo taken with him; the least i could do was bring them a souvenir. so he wrote out a photo saying "[Mom] and [Sister], Make it work! xoxo, Tim Gunn" on it. then he paused, and said "well, i can't just not give you one!!" and wrote out a second one addressed to me.

basically, he was adorable and sweet and SO INCREDIBLY NICE, and EXACTLY like he is on the show. i hear jessica has dibs on marrying him when everyone else dies and goes to mars (or something? i think i'm unclear on the scenario) so i'd like to request dibs on him being my kindly uncle at all future thanksgivings at my mom's house.

  2. I never got down there to meet him or Carson but I've heard such great reviews. Isn't it awesome to meet a celebrity and have them be so down to earth?

  4. Tim Gunn is pretty incredible. Not that I watched Project Runway (ever) or his Guide to Style show (ever).

  15. TIM GUNN! Ah, I love him. Spotted him once in the subway station of all places.

I signed up for a BlogHer account at one point, but never did anything with it. I'm not sure WHAT to do with it. But I want to meet Tim Gunn.

  16. That is so cool! I'm very happy to hear he is just as pleasant and refined in real life as he is on TV. I would love to have him as a kindly uncle as well. Can your family adopt me? (That would actually involve other benefits besides being around Tim Gunn. You mother is an awesome cook, after all, right?)

  18. I'm still babbling to everyone I meet about how delightful and nice he was. I still can't believe it.

But, if you put him in your pocket and took him home with you? I'm totally moving in, too.
