  • i had a dream the other night that i moved into a new house closer in to the city. i'd checked out the apartment ages ago, decided it was absolutely PERFECT, and then had to wait several weeks before making the actual move. except when i showed up, the place was WAY shabbier than i realized, and super tiny. like, literally all i could fit in my bedroom was my bed and a shelf. and it turns out i'd moved back in with some girls i'd lived with before who were AWFUL roommates, and as i was sitting in my room trying to figure out where i was going to unpack all my stuff, the roommates came home pissface drunk with a ton of their drunk friends, including a couple who went into my room and passed out in my bed. and the walls were that crap whitewash done over cement, and it was peeling off everywhere, and all i kept thinking was WHY DID I LEAVE MY OLD HOUSE? and if i knew i was leaving my house, why did i go through all the trouble of painting it? by the time i woke up i was really despondent about having made such an awful choice, and really sad that i'd left my beautifully painted walls. and then i was SO HAPPY when i woke up and it was a dream and HOORAY, i still get to live in my house that i love with my pretty new walls!
  • i know. other people have awesome dreams about flying and shit. i dream about my walls. shut up.
  • after a solid week of crappy rainy weather, we had an amazing warm, brilliantly sunny day on saturday, which was perfect weather for heading out to some virginia wineries:

full set [here]

i've not been very impressed with virginia wineries in the past, but we all absolutely LOVED our second stop of the day, barrel oak winery. they just opened up last memorial day, apparently, and if you're somewhat local i highly recommend a trip out there. they're only about an hour west on 66 from arlington, and all 13 wines we tried there (!!) were delightful.

on a separate note, a 13 wine tasting is, um, a lot of wine. especially if you follow that up with a picnic lunch at the vineyard accompanied by a few bottles. and then another tasting at a third vineyard. i highly recommend a party bus as your transportation choice to get to and from the wineries...

  2. I've been on one VA wine-tasting excursion and it was... well, it was fun and a good time was had by all, but not thanks to the wine. Which was, shall we say, subpar. Good for you for finding an actual good winery in Virginia.

  5. Those pictures pretty much confirm that I want to take a trip with our neighbors to visit some wineries. What a great time!

  6. Sounds like a blast. We don't have so many wineries here in Texas, methinks.

  9. Have you been out to the Bluemont winery? I've been to Tarara with my mother (and she made it fun, plus she bought us several bottles for home). I know that North Gate Vineyard shows at a farmer's market in Fairfax somewhere.
There are several wineries off I-81 heading down toward Luray. Wolf Gap Willie's is where I took the picture in front of the "wino X-ing" sign.

  10. I have dreams like that, where I have to move back into my college dorm (with my whole family. Yes, four people in a dorm room.) or go back to a job I hated. They're very weird.

Your winery tour sounds awesome. Will have to make the trip up to check some of those out.
