first of all, since i forgot this in my first post of 2009: happy new year, all! i had a GREAT new year's eve - i mean, no new year's kiss, YET AGAIN, i am freaking CURSED in that arena, but whatever. oh - well, technically i kissed my roommate. but my track record of kissing Teh Mens: very very poor. i believe i have a grand total of one (1) New Year's Kiss With Dude. ever. WTF. but! the evening was super fun, and we had a grand ol' time, and there are some hilarious photos, and BOY OH BOY am i over 2008 so 2009 was welcomed with open arms.
moving on to much more interesting topics (for you): yesterday was Day Of The Youngins, wherein i had TWO dates in one afternoon, all with gentlemen under the age of 26. first i went to coffee with a boy we'll call Mr. IT, and then i watched the Eagles/Vikings game with a boy we'll call Stretch, because he's 6'7". which, fyi, is WAY TALL. just saying.
Mr. IT: although only 25, he was refreshingly not-25-seeming. he didn't look really young, he didn't act noticeably immature, and he has a good job and is about to start his doctorate (!) in IT security. we had a very nice chat over coffee, right up until the part where he declared that i "didn't seem like a normal girl." when i asked him what that was supposed to mean, he explained that i liked sports and didn't like to shop. which... yeah, true enough. but it made me sort of suspicious - like, seriously dude? your worldview still includes all women getting manis and pedis each weekend after spending 4 hours at the mall talking about how our men were so obsessed with their team scoring a touchdown in the world series! teehee! i don't actually like to be categorized as "girly," but getting that just from the fact that i follow football seems a little hasty. but aside from that glitch, he seemed pretty good and if he emails i'll probably test drive him for a second date.
Stretch: this one was the lone CL contender from the Slow Day At Work posting last week. the googlestalking had produced his facebook profile for me to peruse, which suggested he was only 24. he made a reference to it being hard to be the only 25 year old working with a bunch of 40 year olds while we were out, though, so i don't know if he was rounding up to sound better to an older woman or what? in any event, we met at a bar to watch the eagles game since we're both big NY fans and wanted to scope the competition. i had a good time, but.. he's very young. for example: his roommate is a stoner, who called while we were at the bar to ask stretch to score some weed for him on his way home. i no longer have stoner roommates in my life, and i'm pretty ok with that fact.
he walked me back to the metro after the game was over, and after first offering his hand to shake (me, out loud: a HANDSHAKE? psh *goes in for hug*) hugged me back and gave me a kiss on the top of my head, because his head is still SO MUCH HIGHER than mine, even with me in heels. this is a very new experience for me, being that much shorter than a guy. it's... odd. i agreed to watch next week's eagles/giants game with him, in any event, because even if he is 12, he's still a giants fan, dammit. i'll need moral support for that game.
still to potentially come this week is the engineer, who called on new year's eve but i accidentally did not call back until today. i'd be sort of annoyed with me by now if i were him, though, so we'll see if he responds. so many men, so little time..
You are crazy busy and in demand and awesome! And you haven't ruled out any babies yet, which... well, can I just say that so far they are holding their own? Despite some potential weirdness.
ReplyDeleteLook at you, little hoochie mama in training! Two dates in one day - damn! I guess when you've got it, you've got it!
ReplyDeleteThe one with the stoner roommate, though, not quite so appealing. Grow up already. Makes you wonder if his roommie is a stoner, does he partake himself. Or maybe I'm just suspicious.
this post reminds me of a night out with girlfriends, where one of the girls really wanted to kiss a baby (seriously, I doubt he was old enough to be in the bar) and when we told her she couldn't, she replied with "but he's soooo pretttty!" so now we're allowed to kiss babies, but only if they're soooo prettty. which is my way of saying, if the babies are pretty, why not? except the generalizing done by Mr. IT would certainly piss me off.
ReplyDeleteThey both sound nice! Don't rule out IT guy for his "girly" comment though. Poor dude might've just had a run where the only girls he's seen lately ARE girly.
ReplyDeleteJust saying.
Also, speaking from experience, guys LOVE girls who love sports, and are shocked to find they exist. :)
And now, because the Vikings are douchebags, go Giants!
Ha! I've been married for nearly 21 years and can count on one hand the times I've kissed at midnight on New Years Eve. Sad, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm with Pickles and Dimes, maybe IT guy just hasn't had a lot of exposure to non-girly girls. Give him a chance before writing him off.
Stretch seems awfully young. And then there's the whole scoring weed for the roomie thing... but hey, someone to watch the team with is always a nice friend.
Waiting to hear what happens with the engineer!
My guess is that IT guy was trying to be complimentary, but it came out kind of stereotypy. Guys say that stuff to me all the time when I am watching football and drinking beer, while the other "ladies" are drinking wine and bitching about football.
ReplyDeleteOh, and since my man, Payton lost, I am on board with the Giants for the duration.
You busy, busy little lady! The second guy sounds super young. But for the first guy, it's good you're going to give him another chance. Don't rule him out just yet.
ReplyDeleteI get pretty pissed when guys make comments like that, but he may just have been nervous.
My dad is 6'7" which is why I could never date anyone under 6'.
ReplyDeleteAnd trust me, men never stop making those stupid girly assumptions. Never.
just be glad that you arent a French girly girl :) look how hot you are rubbing off on these young'uns!! and trust me, they dont all automatically go for the girly girls..
ReplyDeletei love my pedis but not at the mall!)- does that make me a girly girl??
ooooh, IT guy sounds great.
ReplyDeleteI'm of the opinion that much like the event itself, New Years Eve kisses are overrated :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't been following your blog for long so you may have mentioned this, but have you tried speed dating?? I like the idea - lots of men, 5 min each so no time wasting, plus there's alcohol! Maybe this will be the year I'll try it myself....
My sister just broke up with a guy who said he thought she was like "NORMAL 35-year-old women"... "normal," in this case apparently meaning "wants to move to the suburbs and have kids immediately." That is not the sole reason she broke up with him, but it didn't help. Also, she enjoys shopping AND football. Wonder what IT dude would say about that.
ReplyDeleteoh sigh, the life of a wanted woman : )
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the engineer. Also you're really not that old - to be calling 24 yr old youngens. Think it has more to do with maturity levels, how much a person seen of the world, how much resposibility they've had etc
ReplyDeleteTall guys like the 6' 7" dude usually have big dicks, so watch the cornhole cuz it might hurt.
ReplyDelete6'7" is tall. Hubby is 6'4" and I am 5'2", so I come maybe/not quite up to his shoulders.
ReplyDeleteHow old are you?
Oh my goodness! I love that you had two dates in one afternoon - that's something I would do, I mean you're already dressed and on your game, right?
ReplyDeleteSounds like Stretch is out though, the kiss on the top of the head? I think that's worse than a handshake.
If it makes you feel any better, I didn't even kiss my man on NYE. We were playing games, heard the ruckus of midnight from other condos, looked up, shrugged our shoulders, wished each other a pathetic happy new years and went back to our game. The grass isn't always greener...
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your dating stories. Guys in IT never were really good with being socially smooth, so you kinda can't blame the guy for what he said. And Stretch? Well, welcome to my world where Sweet is 13 inches taller than me. It can be cute, though annoying when they can see everything and I see nothing (but armpits!). =)
Keep having fun - that's all that matters at this point!
Alice, this post is HI-larious. In a good way. Not a trainwreck way, I mean. MOVING ON.
ReplyDeleteI really, REALLY need to know how to Googlestalk someone and see their Facebook profile! Do you mean without being their friend? More than just their profile picture? HOW! I MUST KNOW OMG EMAIL ME IMMEDIATELY.
Age ain't nothing but a number hon. I know some guys who are older than me and still need to grow up. And some that are younger an way more mature. It's all about attitude. And like Nilsa said, the comment about girls may be less about age and more about IT...give him a second run...
ReplyDeleteWow, a classy comment from anonymous there. I enjoy thinking of Anonymous as just one single person making lame comments all over the internet. It makes him seem pretty legendary. And prolific.
ReplyDeleteThe comment from IT guy would have bothered me too. I hope he was just trying to be funny!
ReplyDeleteWow... I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try internet dating! I did nearly sign up the other day, but chickened out at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteyou are awesome. Just wanted you to know that.
