Well, I'm heading toward the ripe old age of 35, and not only am I still completely in love with the tattoo I got... but I want another.
I love that you can see it in some of my wedding photos! |
I'm thinking maybe shoulder blade area or on my side, over my ribcage maybe. But one of the reasons I chose my wrist last time was so that I could look at it whenever I wanted, which is tricky to do when it's on your back. And I've heard that tattoos over your ribcage hurt A LOT.
And even more tricky: what to get? What else do I find interesting enough / meaningful enough / cool enough / pretty enough / whatever enough to put on myself permanently? Maybe something music related this time, even though I play even LESS piano now than I did five years ago? Finally finish tweaking that celtic knot I was working on last time? A wee frisbee? An MS Paint icon??
Maybe words, this time. I recently saw this quotation from The Twits:
...and I've been fairly obsessed with it ever since, but it's sort of a long quote to print on oneself.
Ideas? Do you have a tattoo? Show me yours! Or send me pictures of tattoos you love!
I love that wedding photo!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could tattoo a reminder of the quote you like. Something LIKE the words "good thoughts" with sunbeams coming out of them, or a smiling sun, or a sun with "good thoughts" on it.
I would like a large tree tattoo on the side of my calf, but might be too chicken, and/or might not be chicken per se and yet might never get around to it.
Swistle, you are SO SMART! I love that idea!!
DeleteThat's a great quote, and I like the idea of just getting part of it tattooed. The word that jumped out at me was "sunbeams" (though, perhaps that's just because of how the quote is presented).
ReplyDeleteI have a few tattoos, including one on each of my wrists, and two on my ribcage (one on each side), and I will say that the ribcage hurts more than the wrist, but if it's just a single word (or even a couple lines of text) it's bearable. I have Little Prince quote on one side that took maybe 30 minutes, and it really wasn't too bad.
(Also, that itch for new tattoos doesn't go away. I'm thinking about another myself!)
Ooh, I do also love Le Petit Prince. I have three quotes from the book framed in my guest room right now. Hmmmmmmm....!
DeleteOooh I love the idea from Swistle of SIGNIFYING that quote (which I agree, is marvelous) without printing the whole thing on your body. Bonus points if you figure out some very subtle way of doing it where it won't be super obvious to the random observer what it means. I am not a tattoo person myself, but the kind of tattoo that appeals to me most is something that has personal meaning that the whole world wouldn't immediately understand.
ReplyDeleteI like that too - when the tattoo is sort of a secret for yourself, even though it's publicly displayed.
DeleteI just got a sizable one on my ribcage (7"x8", full color including white.) It did indeed hurt in a way that my hip and front-torso one didn't come close to. I did not know until afterwards that you can get a lidocaine (skin numb-er) prescription to help with the pain - definitely don't be me and do that!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOooooh! What is the ribcage tattoo of, if you don't mind sharing? That lido suggestion is SO USEFUL, holy cow. Filing that one away for future use.
DeleteI couldn't remember your tattoo so it was fun for me to click on the link and see what I said! hee hee :)
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for locations for the new one, but have the same issue of not seeing it with the one I got on my back: http://www.ilaxstudio.com/blog/2014/10/13/keep-running/ Every time I see it in the mirror I am like "Oh yeah! I have a tattoo!" But I am obviously in to text tats ;)
