odds & ends

this weekend was our end of seaon frisbee tournament for the clique league i've been playing with. this meant three games in a row, starting at 10am. and since one of our girls was injured last week, there were only two of us left to play. for co-ed games you need two girls on the field at all times. which, i'm sure you've worked out, means that the two of us ladies played savage - frisbee talk for WITH NO SUBS AT ALL - for the entire day.

five straight hours of ultimate. with no subs.

on the one hand, this is amazing news, because a few short months ago i couldn't run for more than 2 minutes without needing to stop from the pain in the ol' tailbone. and now! i can play for 5 hours without a sub!

...but that should not assume that i was OKAY after all of that. oh no. i am an old and (as a result of this weekend) infirm, and there has never been a time in my life that running around like a maniac for 5 hours has been a viable way of life. i spent saturday night and all of sunday quite physically unable to walk.

but! with no tailbone pain! which is not insignificant. and the pulled muscles will heal on their own. i am cognizant of and grateful for the fact that i now have the ability to run myself into the ground like an idiot again.

it's been nearly a year since i last went to the salon, so it was uber-high time for me to get my hairs did. i haven't taken any real photos yet aside from these from the bathroom at work (classy!) but i am SO HAPPY with it. these pictures are washed out, but my hair is now a lovely rich chestnuty red with caramel highlights. it makes me happy.

after thirty years, i have given up holding the door for men. i find it lovely and chivalrous when a man wants to hold the door for me, but irritating and stupid when they refuse to walk through a door that i've gotten to first and have already opened. however, men? you have officially worn me down: i will stop even trying to hold the damn door for you.

just before chris left for wisconsin, i went over to his house for the evening. i packed a bag and meticulously made sure i packed every component of what i would need the next day, down to the tights, belt, shoes, and jewelry i'd wear with my dress. the one detail i forgot to bring? THE ACTUAL DRESS.

  1. 1) I am impressed with your athleticism. (although I admit, when I saw the cell phone pics, I thought you were photographing injuries)
    2) Chestnut and caramel? Yummy! (I need to get my hair done, too, but it hasn't been anywhere near the top of my list.)
    3) We're still trying to train the boys to do this for people.
    4) Dress? Bwahahaha

  2. Awww, I miss playing frisbee. I remember at one house (actually a trailer, but a NICE trailer) my roommates and I lived in at college, we had a HUGE yard. During the nicer months, there was a lot of blowing off classes and tossing the frisbee around at our place.

  9. Those pictures are not doing your hair justice. It looks way more chest-nutty red in person and I for one love it!

Remind Chris to get you some cheese from Wisconsin. I know it's not France, but hey, it's what they're known for!

  10. I love the hair! I know you said the photos don't do it justice, but it still looks great.

As for the dress...that definitely sounds like something I'd do.

  11. Chestnut with caramel? Your hair sounds delicious!

I'm with you on holding the door for men. Sometimes it's just easier or second-nature to hold the door open for someone. But when it ends up being a men and there has to be stand-off about it, that's just annoying. Just go through the damn door.

  12. The fact that you can be completely prepared while forgetting the very thing you were preparing for is reason #626 that I love you.
