tidbits

every tuesday, some of my girlfriends and i get together for dinner & wine at one of our houses.

me (on the phone): hey babe! how was your night?
chris: it was good. how was girls' night?
me: it was fun! i gave all the girls tarot readings.
chris: .....
chris: um. you know how to do that....?
me: well, not really anymore, but i was a wiccan for like 2 years.
chris: .....
me: it was a while ago.
chris: .....

i know this is a little hard to see (my camera phone = CRAP) but take a moment to examine the following which was sitting in the hallway of my building the other day:

please note the various "FRAGILE," "THIS SIDE UP," and "GLASS" warnings scrawled all over the box, as well as the sign asking FedEx to pick this package up for delivery. then also note that the box is not actually all the way closed on the top OR the side. there was a bunch of cardboard egg crate type stuff jammed inside, as well as what appeared to be caulk to "fill" the gaps and... seal the opening? i guess? and then some clear packing tape was wrapped enthusiastically around the whole mess.

call me pessimistic, but i do not have high hopes for the mystery fragile glass structure arriving at its destination intact.

i recently saw a neat wall collage at someone's house where they had printed off several photos in different sizes, framed each individually, and hung them in a cluster on a large wall. i also noticed that i had been to virtually every one of the places in their pictures and could totally rip off their idea. so i started going through some of my photos from europe trips, and pulled a few into an album here.

i need your input and advice, folks: would you use any of these pictures? which ones? can i mix black & white and color? should i make more of these b&w than i already have? focus on one theme (eg urban shots vs. landscapes)? i have like 400 sets worth of europe photos that i can theoretically use. (the problem with a lot of them, though, is that i keep visiting in the fall and it keeps being overcast & cloudy, which really affects the frameability of the pictures in my opinion.) HALP!

That's like 2 boxes melded together! Amazing! And likely not effective.

I love your pictures, they're so pretty and make me want to travel all the time and never work again. You could do a couple of categories of collages, if you wanted to do them in 2 different areas. One of architecture, and one of landscapes/nature? And you can definitely mix black and white and color. Do what makes you happy!

  3. I am pretty sure there is a body in the FedEx box.

I think it will look lovely if you mix colour and b/w. And I don't think you need to focus on just one theme. I'm really no help. Sorry. The picture of the castle on the hill? With the trees? Where is that? I want to go to there.

  4. I have a friend who does the wall collage thing, too, but his are mostly friends and family. But yeah, you can totally mix color and black and white. Also, I don't know what you were thinking with frames, but his are all the same frame, just different sizes.

  5. Ha! I have a hard time believing FedEx would even touch that box. It is an insurance claim waiting to happen!

  8. Seems like with those photos a theme has already emerged- travel. Mix it up and it's sure to look cool!

I would hate to be that Fed Ex guy who has to try and wrangle that box.

  11. I really love the one with the bikes. But that's just one in MANY that I really liked in your photo sets.

I'm pretty sure a 5 year old packed that box.
