man, you guys. i am EXHAUSTED. as i told gertrude this morning, i had WAY too much weekend this weekend.
it started off with a bang (and then some) on friday night, when i hung out with a whole lotta fun bloggers, many of whom i was meeting in person for the first time. it involved a "happy hour" that had me returning home at 3am, some highly unstable dancing at heaven (given that walking was a tall order at that point in the evening), a brief foray into a really terrible strip club, and possibly the best tweet i have ever had occasion to write:
pretty sure that's the mark of a good night.
the next day, i had very unfortunately agreed to make an appearance at a soccer tournament as a sub for a friend in the event that not enough girls showed up, so that she could have a break every once in a while. i warned her that i don't exactly "play soccer," and that the most i could promise was running around like a doofus. she claimed that was all that was needed.
so i show up (hungover) to the fields in my little running shorts and sneakers, and discover that these folks aren't "playing some soccer," they are PLAYING some motherfucking SOCCER, with shin guards and cleats and referees and positions and all-stars-when-i-was-in-college players. i do not own shin guards, because the extent of my soccer experience was making an appearance for some half-assed 4 on 4 games during lunches with some coworkers about year ago. happily (?) my friend had a spare set of shin guards, and i gamely ran around like a doofus as promised, doing my best to sweat out the 45 liters of alcohol i had consumed the night before. i didn't screw over their team while i was on the field, which was my only real goal, so.. uh.. yay?
i did, however, pretty much want to die after that was over. especially since i still had to attend a good friend's birthday party that night. i was a trooper and went, but i was possibly the least fun person there as i struggled valiantly to stay away / hold conversations / not suck. i was only mildly successful.
finally, yesterday i got up bright and early to head to solomon's island, md, where some friends and i piled onto a chartered fishing boat for an afternoon on the chesapeake bay and i tried my hand at fishing for the first time. i don't have any pictures yet, since when i got home at 11 last night i pretty much immediately passed out face-first in my bed, but we caught a whole slew of rockfish and i have four very fresh filets in my fridge right now that are going to be in my belly tonight.
after which, hopefully, i will sleep. a lot.
I'm pretty sure that dance you did will be the thing that myths are made of.
ReplyDelete"And then she danced for the masculine-looking lesbian and a light shone down from heaven giving us all more beer."
All in all, that was a pretty amazing night.
Sounds like an awesome weekend, despite the hangover!
ReplyDeleteHoly strippers you are a champ! Any pictures?
ReplyDeleteyour classes are literally paying off!!! sounds like you had a fun but exhausting weekend!! rest up tonight!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think we're going to need pictures. Also, when can I move to DC, so I can hang with the cool kids?
ReplyDeletedude. reading about your weekend made me tired. I don't know how you didn't die.
ReplyDeletethe title alone makes me love you that much more.
ReplyDeletehaha why am i so weird?
ReplyDeleteI love you.
I would have passed out from exhaustion at midnight on Friday. Girl, I couldn't keep up with you. Maybe we should just have coffee? Not that I'm opposed to a few drinks... but um, no one is going to be paying me to pole dance.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that was EVERYONE'S highlight of Friday. I'm hiring you for my birthday, deal?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very busy weekend!
ReplyDeleteumm. I threw up a little on my desk just imagining playing soccer when hungover. You are a goddess.
ReplyDeleteYes, you ARE a trooper! Also, it sounds like you have a backup career in case things do go unfortunately like you said they might go last week. So, um, yay for that? Good to have options? (Um, yeah. Not so much, huh?)
ReplyDeletewow. i have so much respect for you. and so much remorse for being in new york.
ReplyDeleteWOW... just wow. You've outdone yourself. In comparison, my life IS a doily.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I didn't know soccer was different from SOCCER! LOL! You are such a trooper!
