los que no saltan son hijos de puta!

hello, interwebs! i sure do love me a long weekend, but then i get so flustered when i return to the land of the digital afterwards, and everyone has been blogging and twittering away and i'm all behind and oh hey, the rest of the world doesn't have off for memorial day and would you just LOOK at my work inbox, yikes.

the clusterfuck of returning is so, so worth it, though, in exchange for a sublime memorial day weekend like we had in dc. it was the absolute quintessential start-of-summer weekend: gorgeous sunny weather for 90% of the weekend, bbqs galore, sports events, and lots of beer.

we started our weekend on friday with - once again - korean bbq followed by karaoke. it was superb.
saturday was my initiation into la barra brava section of dc united. this is a very.. um... "energetic" group of fans who spend the entire game singing chants at the top of their lungs. there is no sitting and no down time for the entire match.

also, whenever dc united scores, the section throws their beer. the match ended in a 0-0 tie, but i was still drenched in beer by the end of the game. apparently the beer throwing is more of a lifestyle choice, and less dictated by the events of the match.
ooh, and i know a LOT of dc united chants now, including several in spanish. and one involving curse words in spanish. am badass.

sunday was a bbq at a coworker's house, and monday was another bbq with friends. this is after the bbq tailgate before the dc united game, and korean bbq on friday night. it's safe to say i'm ok on meat for a while. (twss?)

aaaanyway. this week is short and sweet for me: after having monday off, i'm also taking off friday, because my parents are coming to town! they're coming down to help me paint the majority of my apartment, which is currently a dingy, stained, i-can-tell-you're-a-renter, used-to-be white. i have a bunch of paint chips taped to my wall this week to determine which still-a-neutral-i-promise-mr-landlord, but omg-please-not-plain-white color will be chosen for the weekend's festivities.

the rest of the weekend will no doubt be spent trying to figure out how to get paint out of cat fur.

  1. leave the paint on the cat.

  2. OK, so the best I can figure without consulting a spanish-english dictionary is that your title says something along the lines of "you sons of a bitch can't jump." Am I close?

  3. So funny. We were just offered tickets to an upcoming Chicago Fire game. There's a section in that stadium just like yours. The people filling the stands there are crazy, but so much fun to watch!

Glad you had such a great weekend! If it makes you feel better, I'm way behind on my blog reading, too.

  4. I didn't know DC United had a section like that. All European soccer teams seem to have that, and it is awesome. Glad to hear that the US is jumping on board that train.

  7. Getting cat fur out of your paint is a much more difficult proposition.

For ten years, I never painted a wall without dog hair. That goes double for my nails.

  8. There is something very unfair when you get to have Korean bbq more frequently than me, an actual Korean. Stupid burg with crappy unethnic restaurants.

Out cats, at least, were very uninterested when I was painting... but then again, maybe they thought I'd turn them into bbq.

  10. I went only once to DC United game (where I managed to glimpse David Beckham running around with his shirt off since they were playing against his team - LA Galaxy - stupid name I know) and absolutely loved the group all the way down next to the field constantly chanting.

Without them, the game would not have been as much fun.

Best of luck with the painting! And um, take post-painting pictures of the cats.

  11. What an awesome weekend! You really know how to have fun :) I think it is worth it to unplug every once in awhile. My google reader is crazy, but whatev (although, it's a good thing your blog begins with an "A" or I might not have gotten to it for some time!).

I can't wait to hear what paint you decide to use! Data was really excited when we painted, because the vents would blow up the plastic we put on the floor and he loved to run and ponce on it! He was paint free though ;)

  12. SO, the question is...what is your karaoke song?

  13. I'm taking off Friday, too! Whee. I'm heading out camping, though. I did manual labor last weekend, so that's enough of that for a bit.

  15. My cat stayed away from the paint fumes, but I suppose cat hair would add texture to the walls...

What did you sing at karaoke?

We were supposed to host a BBQ at 4pm on Monday. Good thing it fell through, because that is when the skies opened up here.

  17. I have awesome friends who live a 5 minute walk away from the stadium.

    LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN.
