unfunking

i've been in a bit of a funk the past week. not depressed or in a bad mood, really, just a little... well, "despondent" seems too strong for what i mean, but it's on the right track. i think it was a combination of work being a bitch, spring refusing to EVER ARRIVE OMG, and after my unpublicized break up with kite boy, no Perfect Man falling spontaneously into my lap. nothing was wrong, per se, but i was feeling a little grumpy under the surface.

add to that a family trip to ireland that we were 30 seconds away from booking, but fell through at the last minute (which is what spurred my sudden obsession with going to the caribbean instead) and things were getting downright annoying. especially since you know how well my caribbean trip planning was going.

WELL. i decided today that the caribbean absolutely Had To Happen, even if i had to pay a ton more to go solo, because it was what i needed to get out of my funk. i need a break from work, and more importantly, i need to see the sun again, and feel its warmth on my exposed skin. so i sat down once again and googled my little tush off until i found something reasonably acceptable, called my mom to ask how much trouble i'd be in if i skipped easter to go to the dominican republic, and booked my ticket.

two weeks from today, i will be on the beach in santo domingo, dr, at the oasis hamaca all inclusive resort.

i just got back from a run. there's nothing like realizing you have to be in a bikini in two weeks to spur you back into your exercise routine :-)

incidentally, the weather broke today and it was gorgeous and sunny on my run. i feel 100% better already, which makes me realize just how much effect the crappy, cold, overcast weather has been having on me. this trip is going to be perfect.

It's amazing how much better people feel and act when the sun and warm weather finally make an appearance. Spring better be here to stay. I'd like to put away my winter coat thankyouverymuch!

  10. My mom travels solo and enjoys it. Last year she went...oh, crap, I can't remember where she went. Spain?? Whatever.
I hope YOU have a terrific time in the DR.

What would you think of a NoVA blogger get-together? Another blogger & I have been talking about it (I think she lives not very far from you).
