oh, HAI! i have a blog! fancy that! perhaps i should write something on it from time to time, eh?
last week in england was pretty good. i've been on a few business trips in the past, but they've always been brief, and not in another country, so i was excited about a week abroad. i was sort of forgetting that it wouldn't be, you know, a TRIP! to EUROPE! where i got to run around sightseeing and taking pictures.... i actually had to work all week, just like normal. (huh! weird.) it just happened to be in another time zone with prettier accents and more pub food.
i did find myself with a free evening midweek, and i used it to wander down to the touristy section of london and snap a few nighttime pictures of the bits that light up at night. i sadly only had my on-its-way-to-dying little point and shoot, and not my Real Camera, so excuse the quality..
i didn't know they did this at night - they projected (changing!) images from current exhibits onto the front of the national gallery. apparently they have a picasso exhibit at the moment.
i was also fascinated with the changing colors of the London Eye and (what google just informed me is) the County Hall - and more specifically, how the changed colors independently of each other. pretty!!
the last night i was there, my lovely friend christina came in from paris to visit. coincidentally, another of our highschool friends just moved to manchester, england, to teach at the university there.. and happened to be in london that evening for a conference. the three of us had a very cosmopolitan dinner together - in london! - before meeting up with one more of my friends (an actual london local, unlike the rest of us) and having a few drinks before we all called it a night. it normally sucks that my friends are so dispersed across the country and the globe, but when we manage to spontaneouly rally a group of 4 of us for an evening in london... it seems a little less sucky :-)
GREAT photos! I want to go back to London now, especially since the London Eye was built just a few months after I was there.
ReplyDeleteMIND THE GAP.
Lovely pics!!! Glad you had such a great time there. Did you happen to bring back any of their draft beer?
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad you couldn't have taken a few extra vacay days to tack onto one end and magically wound up in Paris with your friend. But, alas, you did get to go to London for work, which is likely way better than nowhere Arkansas or something like that. Great pics - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I am so jealous of a week away, even if it WAS for work. (I once had a similar experience gathering several far-flung friends for a dinner in Paris and I've never felt quite so worldly as I did in that moment.)
ReplyDeleteI know it was a business trip and all, but still. I LOVE LONDON AND AM SO JEALOUS.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
Cheerio mate! I read your whole post with a British accent, and wow, the pics are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI never really considered London as Europe, I know dumb, we lived in Germany for 8 years and never went to England except the airports...British Airways was the way to fly in the 90's.
Now, I have London envy. Glad you are back!
The bubble-shaped building on the River Thames? Near Tower Bridge? Is City Hall! I worked there for the Mayor of London for half a year!
ReplyDeleteAwww...I miss London! Glad you got to enjoy yourself a little bit!
your photos makes me ache for London
ReplyDeletewelcome back!
Hee! How fun! Man, I love London. How AWESOME that you all got together for dinner in London.
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE SO FANCY.
Amazing photos!!
ReplyDeleteOoo, I cannot WAIT to get back to London. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you eat, if you don't mind saying?
I love London! Except for the being ridiculously expensive part. I am always asking Hubby why he can't get transferred to London.
ReplyDeleteFantastic pictures! I simply ADORE London and can't wait to go visit there again.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love London. (Judging by the last few comments, I see I'm not alone.) As someone famous (I forget who right now) once said, "When you've tired of London, you've tired of life." So true. Pip pip! Hee.
ReplyDeletedid you drink pimms and lemonade? that's my favorite part about london
ReplyDeleteI love the night shots. Especially the National Gallery. It is so neat that they do that! I think the photos turned out great for a point and shoot.
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you got to dine with three of your friends! There's nothing like the buzz you get from catching up with friends. What a great time :)
welcome home. I lived in London many years ago and miss it so much. thanks for the photos. (and reviving the great memories)
ReplyDeleteOh, jolly good! Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteI love those nighttime photos - they really are wonderful. When I was there, it was with a husband, 2 preschoolers, and a nursing baby. Not exactly conducive to nightlife or pubs (although of course I *had* to eat at one and drink a nice stout, too!)
As for not blogging in a while, hey, we were warned at the very top of your page: "sporadic blogging at its best"!
We lived in London for a year when I was four, and for some reason I was OBSESSED with Big Ben. Still love him :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd TMI Thursday? It's all about the Overshare, in whatever capacity your little heart desires. Sex, poop, periods... I've done it all.
Pictures...amazing!
