sunday was glorious. GLORIOUS. i mean, sure, it never got above 40 degrees, and it was raining and windy the whole day, and sure, i was outside in it from 9am to 5pm... but...
I GOT TO SEE MY GIANTS WIN AGAIN AT FEDEX FIELD :-)
(incidentally, i don't want to hear it about the plax jersey, ok? i hadn't watched the news before i packed my 27365 layers and picked out a jersey the night before, otherwise i probably would have gone with tiki over his dumb ass for this game. and yes, i caught a lot of flak for wearing it. and no, i don't care, because make as much fun as you want, WE WON ANYWAY.)
we had really nice seats. great view of the field:
and riiiiiiiiight under the club level boxes, so we actually got sheltered from most of the rain once we were in our seats.
we got there long, long before the game actually started, though. like at 9am. tailgating is SERIOUS BUSINESS, apparently. they had four cars parked butt-to-butt, with a 10'x10' tent set up over the main area to keep us mostly dry; a grill for the huge pot of chili, and a freaking propane-fueled deep fryer that they used to make chicken, fries, catfish, and flounder in.
then, of course, there was the drinking. beers, naturally, and some goldschlager, and a delicious concoction made from tuaca and hot apple cider... and then the moonshine.
honest to god, home-brewed-in-someone's-backyard, moonshine.
i can't even begin to describe how awful that stuff is straight. it's like lighter fluid mixed with butane mixed with windex. however! someone took pity and made it into a mixed drink for me, which was actually not bad at all. this picture is actually super appropriate, because you see how the background is sort of blurry? like i'm standing still and everything else is sort of sliding around? that's EXACTLY WHAT IT FEELS LIKE to be drunk off moonshine. it's like you don't even really feel that drunk, but everything is sort of... hilarious and squishy. i remember announcing halfway through my drink that the moonshine must be powerful, because while i didn't really feel drunk, i did have the urge to hug everyone i saw. i had never met anyone at the tailgate before aside from darlene. i am classy.
amd although we kept joking that by 3pm we'd no longer be speaking to each other, in the end, darlene and i managed to stay friends despite our rivalry. which, you know, was easier for me, since WE WON BWAHAHAHA :-)
That last photo is super cute. And I love how you describe the drunkenness as "squishy." Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteLooks like such fun. I cannot believe you drank moonshine. That has to be one of the "things to do before you die", right?
ReplyDeleteThis year at the Auburn-LSU game there was a "jar" of moonshine made just a few counties over...I never did get brave enough.
ReplyDeleteI love football...though big brother's team is mine (Colts).
You were definitely well dressed! Awesome view by the way. I must say though, and don't hate me, I'm not a Giants fan. Again, please don't hate me!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! The pictures tell the story very well. Especially the blurry one ;)
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute in your jersey (even if it is that tool Plax's). :)
ReplyDeleteIf the Giants weren't an NFC rival and the Vikes weren't actually stumbling into victories, I'd cheer for them.
Fun! And that they won makes it all the better.
ReplyDeletelooks like a great time and tailgate!
ReplyDeleteremember when the browns beat the giants earlier in the year? heehee
I wish we had an NFL team we liked, because the FUCKING BCS is killing me.
ReplyDeleteA guy I used to work with made moonshine in his garage. He always promised to bring me in a bottle, but eventually he quit before he ever delivered. I can't decide from your story whether that is a good thing or a bad thing!
ReplyDeleteI had straight moonshine once, up at my uncle's place in Hicksville. You described it perfectly! I was underage at the time, so I think that is why he gave me a shot of it. NASTY stuff - I've had no desire to repeat the experience. Of course, had he made it into a nice mixed drink...
ReplyDeleteI saw people lined up to get on a charter bus here on Sunday morning, which is all the tailgating I ever see. I love to watch football from the comfort of my living room with a clean bathroom nearby. But you had better drinks AND the excitement of actually being there, so you win!
That jersey? Hilarious! But, you're a good sport for putting up with that shit all day. I likely would've turned the jersey inside out to shut up all the haters!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great time! I know how it feels to head into FedEx and walk out with a win, as my Steelers did in Nov. So Yay for you too!
ReplyDeleteI just hope you weren't quite as drunk as I was after our tailgate...
And it is unfortunate about the jersey. Damn Plax. I never could get behind him in the Black and Gold.
Moonshine? And they just give it out, lol. Tailgaiting almost makes me a football fan...almost! We need to do the same here before our hockey games. Or maybe we do and I just don't know about it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had an amazing time - I got ahead in our football pool because of that game, thanks for overseeing it!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great time. And I've always been curious about moonshine.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have a knack for being around every huge moment for the Giants.
ReplyDeleteAnd why didn't I get offered a ticket.
