hundred pushups: progress report

today was day one of week 3 of the 100 pushup challenge i decided to start a few weeks back. i had already been warned by shauna about the insane difficulty level of week 3, but i did not take her seriously enough, because OH MY HOLY BICEPS. what the hell are they THINKING??

i almost didn't even try this morning, partly because i went to a driving range with muffin yesterday for the first time in my life, so my back is sort of on fire right now, and partly because the week three numbers that i had taped to my dresser were so intimidating i was scared to even try.

week 2, day three's reps were 5, 5, 4, 4, 6+ (meaning you did 5 pushups, rested, did 5, rested, did 4, rested, etc.. and the last rep was a minimum of 6 pushups, but you went for as many as you could).

today was 15, 12, 12, 10, 15+.

WHAT. THE. HECK.

i was maxing out at about 12 on friday, which i thought was pretty awesome at the time. i had gone from 5 to 12 in 2 weeks, not bad, right? except HA HA HA 15. TO START.

i finally rallied this morning, got down on the floor, and shocked the shit out of myself by doing 15 pushups in a row. feeling awesome, i continued on to rep #2 and pumped out the full 12.

by the time i finished rep 3, i was shaking, and my heart was pounding like i had just run a sprint. i had to lie down to recuperate. and i definitely took more than the suggested 60 seconds in between reps before attempting rep 4.

i completed rep 4 - did the full 10 - and then i more or less died. i flopped into bed, on my back, and decided that was enough pushups for one day.

soooo it looks like i'll be repeating week 3, day 1 again on wednesday. although i can't say i'm all that disappointed, because i'm still pretty amazed that i pulled off that first 15.

also, my arms look pretty sweet right now. still no pec bouncing abilities, but i'll keep you posted.

  1. Sweets and I were doing that challenge. And then I went on vacation. And then I got sick. And now we're both lazy. Time to pick that baby back up. Though, we're still in Week 2. Will have to give you the report for Week 3 when we get there.

  2. I really should start the push-up thing, but so far I haven't gotten beyond printing it out. I did order Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred along with a 5 DVD box set of other shit to kick my ass, but it hasn't arrived yet. So my INTENTION of getting in shape is good, but my actual MOVEMENT toward that goal is woefully lacking.

  3. I think it took me 4 or 5 tries to properly do day 1 of week 3 (I did it once before, but my form was so atrocious I told myself it didn't count). Anyway, tonight I have to do day 2, which I was hoping would be an easier day, but NO. This challenge is BRU-TAL.

I have the stuff for your package! I'll let you know when I mail it out (either tomorrow or Wednesday)! It was so fun picking everything out!

  5. You are awesome, though. And it might take more than 100 days but eventually you will be RIPPED and it will be AWESOME.

  6. My arms burn just THINKING about it, let alone doing it.

    GO YOU!

  7. I am the WORST at pushups. Seriously. But if they can make my arms look sweet, I may have to give them a try. For a day and then give up on them again, but at least "try"

  9. Push-ups are my foe. Go you for trying this challenge! I wish I get myself motivated to get back in shape.
