things i wish i'd learn:

*to never choose skittles from the vending machine. they are guaranteed to get stuck in the little twisty arm more than any other vending machine candy in existence, and invariably cost double, as i have to put in a SECOND 75 cents to push the stuck skittles out.

*to put sneakers in a place where i'll actually take them with me when i leave the house, if i've worn them home after the gym or some other sneaker-related activity the day before. it's all well and good to keep a gym bag in my car, but if my sneakers are still under the coffee table, it makes the post-work gym session fairly impossible.

*there is nothing on tv at 11pm on a week night that is so mesmerizing that the time wouldn't be better spent going to bed.

*to stop kidding myself that buying a bag of cheese curls is an innocent purchase, since obviously i'm going to eat the whole bag in 2 sittings, at most.

  1. You should meet our vending machine. I swear it's haunted. At various times, when it chooses, it will maybe give you back the money it owes you (or NOT) or give you back extra change (rarely ever), or (and this is my favorite) not give you what you asked for so you have to smack it around for a while. And that thing ain't light.

  3. I really hate when I can't get the candy out of a vending machine... and normally I start shaking the crap out of it.. usually it works.

  4. Heh! The vending machine here randomly gives you back extra change from time to time. It's like a little extra thank you in addition to the empty calories.

  5. The only one of those things that I don't need to learn is the sneakers thing, since I don't have a car and my gym is in my apartment building. The other ones, though... I wonder if it's REALLY possible to learn any of them.

  6. Peanut M&Ms always get stuck in the vending machine for me. Doesn't matter which machine. It always happens.

  7. Just start shaking that vending machine till they fall. Look desperate and half crazed and blame it on PMS.

  10. Who cares if you eat those cheese curls in two sittings or twenty. You're still eating them, right? That's what I tell myself when I buy something I want to last and finish it off the same day. Ha.

  12. For the vending machine - try holding down the selection button until your selection drops. That's always managed to work for me.

And I'll teach you there's nothing on tv after 11 if you'll teach me that there's no book worth staying up to read, when I'm going to be dead tired the next day.

  13. oh the last two are my evils...though i like staying up for Leno (its on late here too). so with that, i'm off to bed!

and besides, there is nothing wrong with eating an entire bag of cheese curls - my philosophy is that as long as you are enjoying it...why not?

  15. Here's my whole problem with Skittles: there are too many yellow and orange ones in every bag. They should throw, maybe 2 of each in a bag and call it a day. More red, purple and green, please.

  16. "there is nothing on tv at 11pm on a week night that is so mesmerizing that the time wouldn't be better spent going to bed." Can you please teach that to my husband as well? ;) He used to be worse, so I really shouldn't complain...

  17. But...but...then you get two bags of Skittles and, let's be honest, isn't that more of a win/win?

  18. I gotta agree with Joe on that :)

Re: the sneakers: Drop your keys on top of them. When you leave the house, you'll need your keys. You'll remember where you put them (You WILL remember!) and voila! Sneakers.
