i miss my cleaning lady

my family is arriving at my house in about an hour. i'm working from home today, so i've spent the day alternately typing industriously on my laptop, idly surfing online, and maniacally scrubbing floors (on my KNEES! i washed my kitchen floor BY HAND! i mean.. not that i normally have a robot do it, but i don't usually get down on actual hands and knees and SCRUB, is what i'm saying).

my mom keeps a very clean house. VERY VERY clean. i keep a moderately clean house - i don't like too much clutter, i vaccuum with some consistency, wipe down counters every night, you know. but i don't, uh, wash baseboards, for example. or think to wash bedroom doors or fan blades very often. so when my mom comes, i go into hyper-overdrive-clean and suddenly i'm washing windows and dusting books. this is when it's kind of good i don't live with a boy, because i'm pretty sure i'd get a lot of raised eyebrows and silent mocking.

oh, i wanted to mention that i am No Longer Drowny. (yay!) you'd think one of these days i'd remember what pms is like, and how HEY, LOOK! IT ALWAYS MAKES ME MOPEY! but.. apparently not. i blame it on 10 entire pms-free years setting an unfair precedent.

ok, off to go dust plant leaves, or something equally insane. then: fun family weekend! yay! i hope you all have faaaantastic weekends. go forth! enjoy your weekend!

Your mom sounds like my mom! I used to have to clean grout with a TOOTH BRUSH!

ugh, i miss my mom's cleaning lady too. she always comes to my moderately clean apartment and is like, um lex, this bathroom?

and i snap back, if i could afford a cleaning lady i would! and i need to work more hours to work my way up and do so which leaves me with less time to clean.

thank you very much!

have a great weekend!

On the feeling mopey? I cried Sunday because I was trying to make eggs sunny-side up and broke the yolk twice. And I was afraid (no joke) of frying the bacon.

The boyfriend sent me to the couch and finished it for me. And the next day? We laughed about it.

I choose to not acknowledge dust. My life is happier that way.

I am ALLERGIC TO DUST.

Cleaning is SUPER FUN!

I get the same way when my parents come to visit, especially my mom. And guess what? They are both coming on Monday so tomorrow is my massive cleaning day!

Have an awesome weekend!

I get the same way. Then, after a visit from the step-mom, I hear from one of my sisters that my windowsills aren't clean enough.

Dear God.

OH THANK GOD my mom likes to joke about how messy her house is. It's really not that bad, but it would never occur to her to even LOOK at my baseboards.

Does your mom ever comment on the cleanliness of your place, or do you just want to make sure it's to the standards of her home? I've heard of some moms being mean, but mine doesn't care at all... of course, she has a messier house than me! ;)

I find it interesting that women can't connect their PMS more than they do. I think PMS is better suited for guys. We would just plan around it. "Oh, wait Fred, I have PMS the first part of next week. I'll be in isolation. Can I get back to you on Thursday?"

Oh, I hear you. I must be bad though, because I seriously have no idea what a baseboard is....

My folks are uber clean but I am just clean enough for them, so they say. Its annoying when they visit and "inspect". lame

I myself did a hand scrubbing of the baseboards in anticipation of a recent parental visit. I feel your pain. Also blinds? are the worst things to dust EVER.

Haha, in the first few years of living away from home I used to do the same thing. Now I just count it as clean when all the dirty dishes are out of sight in the oven.

Hopefully your mom was suitably impressed. One of the great things about being a guy is that my mother always looks pleasantly surprised if my house is in halfway decent shape.

i hear the words cleaning woman and i think of the Steve Martin movie "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" ...long story, but it's worth a laugh or two.

Hope your weekend with the family was most excellent. And if you're available next week, we'd love to contract your cleaning services for our new home. :-)
