blogher?

show of hands: who's going to Blogher in SFO in july?

if you're going, a) do you need a roommate? and b) how much of the conference portion did you sign up for?

it randomly occurred to me yesterday that blogher isn't JUST for famous earn-their-job-by-blogging blogers, but.. you know.. for ANY bloggers. and i've been all bummed that i have no travel plans scheduled for the summer.

AND i love san fran and have some friends i owe visits to out there ..

the conference itself is pretty pricey, especially after the flight and the hotel is factored in. i'm toying with the idea of going out there and just paying for the cocktail party portion. except.. um.. that might be tacky, huh? or.. alcoholic-y? except really, i'm just interested in meeting some of these people i only know virtually. and taking a vacation, of course. it looks like there are probably a bunch of really interesting seminars, but.. i might rather hang out in the city during the day, then go meet up with lovely blogger ladies by night.

thoughts?

  1. I love your idea of skipping the seminars and just going for the booze. :) I always thought it was for famous bloggers too, but it would be SO fun to go!

  2. I am going!

I am staying at the Westin and going to the seminars on the 18th and 19th plus the cocktails both of those nights. I have also signed up for the "People's Party" on the 17th. I haven't signed up for the official newbie welcome party on the 17th yet but may sign up for that one as well just in case we want to go to that one too.

There is an open seminar on Sunday that my roomies are signed up for that I opted out of and will probably attempt to go to brunch instead.

I'm in town from the 17th-21st

  3. I'd love to go but can't ... money is tight and those flights are expensive!!

Why don't they have it on the EAST coast? That would be AWESOME!

  4. I'm going and I'm not remotely famous. I'm going to the conference, though I'm sort of fearing it will be a waste of money. Really, I just want to go for the same reasons you wan to go.

  5. Would be so much fun to go to SF! I too have a friend (yeah, just one) I need to visit there. But alas, lack of funds and already paid for trip (for next week) will not allow me to travel to the West Coast. Hope you have an awesome time!! (And of course take pics.)

  6. Hey there. It's Kristy, and I'm the BlogHer Conference organizer.

The first year I went to BlogHer ('06), before I had any idea what BlogHer was, I signed up for one day and expected to spend it drinking. So I hear you. :)

That said, I feel a lot differently now. There's just a lot of stuff going on, TOTALLY not for big ole' bloggers.

Anyone who is new this year will get an invite to the Newbie Party (and we haven't officially announced this yet, but there will be a wine tasting at the newbie party).

And I just wanted to mention that the keynote on the first day is readings from bloggers, and everyone should feel free to submit a post for consideration! Check it out here: http://www.blogher.com/announcing-blogher-community-keynote-friday-july-18th-and-how-you-can-be-part-it

Okay. I'm done hogging your comments, but please feel free to email me if you have any questions or want more information, booze-related or otherwise. :)

  11. I'd love to go to San Fran sometime, but it'll have to be when my kids are older. Otherwise I'd room with ya! And signing up for cocktail party only sounds perfectly fine to me. :)

  12. The thing about blogs is we each get to define ours - to make it work best for us. I don't see why you can't do the same with BlogHer! I say go for it! If it wasn't my wedding/buy/sell/houses year, I'd be out there in a heartbeat!

  13. Hi! Found you through Hillary's blog.

I really really want to go this year. But due to the fact that my husband and I decided to blow all of our cash on a road-trip to Jackson Hole at the end of June (Dear God, Please let gas stay under $4.00/gallon...) this year's BlogHer isn't in the cards.

Next year?? Uh duh. And going for the booze? A most-excellent idea.

  14. I would totally go just for the cocktail party - I mean, why else WOULD you go? Screw boring seminars, I just wanna get drunktz with other bloggers!

I would love to head down to San Fran - I made it there in two days of driving once, but with my potential job situation - and total lack of funds due to the situation - I'll probably have to pass.

  16. I'm going and so is Oh! How Lovely. We're staying at the Hotel Carlton, not too far from where BlogHer is being held.

We're volunteers so we'll be at the conference on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is our "explore SF" day!

We should totally meet up if you decide to go!

  19. I say go. I'm not because there are other trips I have my eyes on, or else I would definitely be there.

  20. I'm hoping that I have enough money for my vacation to NC at the end of August, so I can't plan any more trips! Sounds like fun, though.

  21. I don't feel like a committed blogger at the moment (or especially proud of my blog), so I would have never thought of blogher. It woulda been kind of cool to meet a couple of people there though.

    Sounds fun!
