BECAUSE I DID!
i've been in my new place for nearly two months, and oliver has definitely been lonely. the last house had two other cats who lived there, as well as the occasional dog or three, so i think the transition to Only Pet has been rough on him. he cries every time i leave, and he cries for attention for ten straight minutes every time i get home.
so i got him a friend :-)
this is.. um.. Female NoName, 10 weeks, according to her chart at the vet's office. she's a tiny, scrawny, supposedly-10-week-old Siamese of questionable heritage that someone was getting rid of on CraigsList.
she currently weighs 1lb, 11oz (which is basically NOTHING, it's like holding a piece of styrofoam) and is "runty," in the vet's words. she's very skittish and shy, and flees whenever i come into a room (or stand up in a room she's already in)... but has already fallen 100% in love with oliver.
oliver was a little spooked when i first brought her home, but quickly transitioned into displaying utter returned adoration, which he shows by alternately licking her face, licking her butt, and pinning her down onto the carpet by her head and pretending to bite her neck / legs / face off. i tried to keep her locked up in my bathroom when i first brought her home, since she hadn't been vaccinated or dewormed yet, but oliver broke her out of the bathroom twice (...??) so i gave up and just let them play together.
so now she needs a name. as you may or may not recall, oliver is actually named after the hot captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, Oliver Wood. which yes, I KNOW HOW DORKY THIS IS, let's move on, shall we? i think my wee girl kitten should also have a harry potter name, but nothing so obvious as Hermione, and i don't really like Ginny or Cho. my current front runner is Fleur (as in Delacour). other suggestions have been Tonks, Minerva, Lily, and Molly (although then i'd have molly and oliver.. molly and ollie. do not want!) so let's do a comments-vote, a la swistle, shall we? vote on a name for the kitten!
Gah! I'm not a cat person but this made me want a kitten. I can't get over the cuteness.
ReplyDeleteI've never read/seen Harry Potter so I can't come up with any Harry Potter names, but my fave girl pet names are:
Pip
Gemma
Jelly
Bella
Dare I admit I have yet to read any of the Harry Potter books? Right, so moving right along. My vote? Piper. Because I think it's an adorable feline name.
ReplyDeleteAwww! Kitteh so cute!
ReplyDeleteShe is SO CUTE - a perfect companion for Oliver! I voted for Minerva - I luv that for a pet's name, and it shortens easily to Minnie. And I think Minnie & Ollie go well together!
ReplyDelete~LA
Oh, PLEASE name her Tonks!!! I love that character in the HP books! Plus what an ADORABLE name for a cat! Love it!! I vote for Tonks!!! Just all these exclamation points alone should convince you, right?!?!
ReplyDeleteUm, the cuteness? Are you sure you'll be able to tear yourself away from it to have dinner tomorrow? Because I would totally understand if you couldn't.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Tonks! Tee hee.
How could you forget about Luna Lovegood? Although Tonks is SUCH a cute kitty name!
ReplyDeleteSee, I like Tonks, but it seems pretty...specialized. Like with Oliver you're not obviously "hello! Named after Harry Potter character!" but Tonks much more so. I like Lily and Minerva (Minnie). I also am deathly allergic to cats but am considering getting one just because of these pictures. Thanks a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think Minerva is the most cat-like name of the bunch, so I vote for that. She is very cute and looks like a Minerva to me.
ReplyDeleteOH MAH GAWD - she is so cute! I am dying from the cuteness of her & Oliver together. Too awesome.
ReplyDeleteI think she is definitely a Fleur; dainty and tiny.
P.S. One pound?!? My cat Sunny is 13x her size...
out of the ones you suggested, I like Tonks the best ... but may I suggest Bellatrix. Then you can call her Bella or ... how cute is this? ... Trixie.
ReplyDeleteAm dying over here of the kitten love. TOO CUTE.
yay! new friend for oliver!! i'm not a cat person at all, but she's so teeny tiny cute! I like Tonks for a name...then you can call her Tonkie if you want ;)
ReplyDeleteTonks! Tonks!Tooooooonnnnnkkkkkkksss!!!
ReplyDeleteAhem. I mean, if you wanted to.
P.S. She's so cute, they're so cute together (the hiding in the basket on the shelf = too much!), Oliver is a genius with doors, and also? You're going to need a bigger litterbox...
ReplyDeleteBella! Also for Bellatrix. You have to have one good and one evil, it's a rule :)
ReplyDeleteI think Tonks is really sweet for a kitten. and she's totally gorgeous. I am very very envious!
ReplyDeleteIf I was talking to my parents right now my dad would suggest Fnu Lnu (FA-noo LA-noo.) Which is what you call a suspect when you bring him in and he refuses to talk (or you're looking for him but don't know his name)... you know. First Name Unknown, Last Name Unknown.
ReplyDeleteOr Satellite Ears, holy fuck.
ReplyDeleteOh! SO. CUTE. You made my day.
ReplyDeleteOooooh oooooh ooooooh ooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, and now I'm supposed to THINK??? :oO
Ummmm... I'm thinking of non-human names. Like hufflepuff (puff for short because that's too long!) I like tonks for a kitten a LOT but dunno about when she gets bigger (she is going to get bigger right? ;) ) Or Ravenclaw. She could be Raven for short.
What about "Mrs. Norris?" I like that one :)
I also like Lily, and Minerva... *sigh* I'm no help. But you can't hold me accountable. I'm under a massively massive cuteness spell (see? casting spells already ;) )
I am so happy for all of you! Especially Oliver :)
and just so you know... the pictures of the two cats together made me cry.
ReplyDeleteShe certainly looks like Tonks to me! What a little cutie-pie!!!!! Awwwww....I love kitties.
ReplyDeleteNo suggestions on the name, but what a cutie!
ReplyDeleteok now i am not the biggest cat lover at all. but seriously those are some darn cute pictures.
ReplyDeleteand the like the name fleur!
Oh, man! My Kitteh-Kravings have been back, and now - now a real live kitteh to ooh and ahh at?!?! Your timing is something, Missy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gem! I see the name Fleur in her future... ;-)
Ok, I think I'm a little late, but I would vote for Tonks! I loved her character in the Harry Potter books (yes I have read all of them and seen all the movies - don't judge me).
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of cats (I know, I'm sorry), but these two are just sooooooooo adorable!
my vote is for lily
ReplyDeleteOMG I LOVE HER!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Tonks or Minerva. (If Minerva seems like too much name for such a lightweight, you could call her Minnie.)
adorable! I'm such a sucker for pictures of kitties :-)
ReplyDeleteI love her! I had a cat named Bellatrix when I was single, so I totally vote for that. (After the star, because I'm a big old dork. And the Harry Potter books hadn't come out yet.) She is so, so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute together! I second Tonks!
ReplyDeleteOr even Minnie..Since shes so small :)
I vote for Lily, but only because the lil' kitty looks too sweet and innocent to be Bellatrix or Narcissa.
