Things I Did Today

  • set up internet and cable at my new house
  • set up electric at my new house
  • set up gas at my new house
  • nearly set myself on fire

haha! oops! we have a gas fireplace at our house, and i was working from home and it was reeallly cold, so i turned on the fire and sat in front of it. except it's sealed behind a glass wall, so you have to be REALLY close to feel the heat from it. so! i got my pillow with the little arms (anyone else call those "husbands"?) and leaned it up against the glass wall. did you know glass will get hot enough to BURN THROUGH fabric? and cause your house to smell like something's burning? because IT IS? yeah. i wasn't bright enough to figure that out on my own until i nearly set my own back on fire.

the, uh, pillow's ruined. obviously. it was an old crappy pillow, so i'm not too worried about that, although i am kind of bummed it wasn't something that belonged to The Family, considering how much of my stuff they've tanked. ah well. i'll console myself with the fact that i didn't set myself on fire. for now.

  1. It's totally sealed behind a glass wall? There's no door or chute or vent or anything? Why don't you just light a fire in your neighbor's fireplace? Wouldn't that be about as effective? Lol!

    Glad you're ok :)

  2. Nothing like a little excitement to start the weekend! I have also heard that those pillows are called husbands. Although I am not sure what I call them.

  3. I did the same thing with a pair of socks. I had to put my feet right up to the glass because it's just never too hot for me. Until melting. Then it's too hot.

  4. I also call those things husbands, even though I think it's kind of a weird name for such a thing.

Funny that you "burned your husband."

Good job on avoiding setting fire to yourself.
