pictures! proof i didn't make my sister up!

due to popular demand, i have located the cd my dad sent me of all the pictures of our family vacation to san francisco earlier this year which - yes - has pictures of me and my sister IN THE SAME FRAME! which may not dispel any notions of us being twins, but at least i can prove we're two different people. :-)

and look, we're entirely different-sized people:

i know, i know, i'm all slouchy and why am i sticking my leg out like that in both pictures? look, i don't know how tall you folks all are, but i seem to hang out with abnormally short people a lot. and at 5'8" i'm no amazon... unless i'm standing next to a bunch of people who are 5'1". so after looking like some sort of estranged giraffe in a couple too many photos, i started getting a little slouchier and tipping my head down towards the other people to minimize the difference. also i get yelled at by my short friends when i make them look like midgets in our photos togehter.

anyway. moving on. i have a penchant for forcing people to be involved in dumb photo ops. i think it's funny, and i think bizarre photos are more fun to look back on than the same 4 people smiling the same smile in front of different landmarks.

apparently i get this from my mom. this is a shot where she requested my sister and i pretend to use this random antique grain grinder thingy:

this next set are my doing, though. so, there's this nifty tower in sfo (airline-ese again! hi! dork! sfo = san francisco) called Coit Tower, which is shaped like a "fire hose nozzle" because, apparently, there was this chick Lillie Coit who was obsessed with the local firemen's.. uh.. nozzles. so she erected a tower shaped just like a ... nozzle.. to honor the firemen. (it's affectionately referred to as "the largest erection ever achieved by a woman.") anyway. inside the tower are all these neat depression-era WPA murals painted on all the walls. they were pretty cool, and a lot of them were lifesized... so naturally i made my sister start interacting with the mural-folk while i took pictures. i can't BELIEVE i got my mom and dad to do it too...

you can click on these and they get bigger! oh-so-blog savvy, am i...

so. there you have it! a. my sister and i are independent entities, although possibly identical, and b. my family is pleasantly insane. cheers! :-)

you know what makes a fairly mundane, relatively crappy thursday better? TWO POUNDS OF CHOCOLATE, that's what!! i was sitting at my desk yesterday when i received a package. to recap for those who may not know, my job consists of mind-numblingly financial crappiness which a french major should never, ever, have thought was a good idea, even if it was the only way to make rent. but i digress. there's been this nasty internal audit for the last 879,000 weeks here, and as a financial grunt worker, i've been required to locate and produce all sorts of tedious documents for people who need the approximately six hundred and forty-teen pieces of paper needed to fill the dreaded Audit Binder. so, i get this fedex box, and i assume someone has mistakenly mailed an actual audit binder to me for some reason. i open it up.. and it's not a binder... it's an ENORMOUS, beautiful, solid hunk o' chocolate, from one of the VPs i provided loads of stuff to for the audit. look. it's a thing of beauty, i tell you.

i took that picture to send to the boyfriend, to share my awe, then realized there was no scale to the picture. so i took these. you may notice some of the keyboard has already been consumed.

AND, i won a coke with that bottle cap. not a bad thursday, all things considered :-)

  7. omg! those pictures made me howl...something about you guys posing in all these 'trying to blend in' ways against a mural was hilarious!!

and I've never thought about it before...but you're right--funny pictures are so much better than four people smiling the same way with only a change in background..

  10. Those pictures are hysterical! You know, I'm your height and I always feel like a damn amazon in pictures. It seems like every other woman in the world is no taller than 5"0. :0(

  11. I don't understand why women who are 5'8" (still 3" shorter than the average man) feel like they are so huge.

  12. In some pics you do look like twins, even with the height difference. lol Thanksfor sharing.

  14. y'all... the chocolate is as good as it looks :-) i should post a pic tomorrow of how much i've eaten ;-)

online dating dude... here's the thing. first, like linny said, it seems like there are a LOT of short women around. and also? a LOT of short guys. i'm 5'8", and i wear heels every day. so i'm traipsing around at like 5'10" on a fairly regular basis - 5'11" if i'm going out to a bar! i'm now as tall as, or taller than, at least 50% of guys. and at 5'11", i am WAY taller than those wee 5'0" ladies. result: i feel like an amazon ;-P

thanks for the comments guys :-) it makes me so happy when i get comments! i wonder who wrote all those comments and deleted them? it wasn't me this time..!

  17. nice photo's...you do look different in some of them. by the way, do you ever sing that song "alice, alice, who the fuck is alice"? i forget who sings it. great tune. hear it all the time at dewey.

  18. I have some really stupid photo ops too. I agree, they are fun to look back on. If for no other reason, to have someone who has never seen them before say, "What the HELL are you doing here?"

I think it would be fun to call the help desk and tell them that your computer won't work and they have to come to your office. Then you sit there and pound on the buttons of your chocolate keyboard.

  20. It's nice for tall women to have an excuse to slouch. I just slouch cause I'm lazy.

P.S., I'm not dead or anything.

  23. Great pictures, although I suspect you may have photoshopped in some anonymous woman in the hopes of tricking us into believing that you actually do have a sister.

Love the pics of you guys at the murals. Very creative and funny as hell.
