yay marriage

you guys. i got this flyer in the mail from an apparently local baptist church yesterday.
WHAT THE EFF IS THAT SUPPOSED TO EVEN MEAN?

"his love, regardless of her respect." ...WHAT?

i mean, i can't even tell if i should be offended by it. as a woman, i mean. is it a seminar on how men can foist their love on women even if the woman doesn't respect them? or how women should respect men even if the men don't love them?

HELP ME UNDERSTAND.

  1. I don't get it either. I don't understand what their point it. It might be worth attending just for the blog post material.

  2. I don't get it...but I don't think I like it. At all. Call it a gut feeling.

  3. I don't know what it means but somehow I feel offended.

Wait a minute. Stop the presses. Time out. A free refrigerator magnet?!?!? I'm in.

    Not really.

  4. "Yay Marriage!" ??? Um, way to lend some gravitas to the seminar, uh, thing.

  5. First off, who does their publicity? Because entitling it "Yay Marriage" is so totally lame.

Secondly, I'm offended. There is no way to read this flier that isn't insulting. Worse, people might actually go to this stupid thing and I'm thinking there might be a rise in domestic violence cases. Jesus.

  6. I don't know that I should be offended just yet either. It really seems very poorly thought out. But I'll be waiting to hear if they respond to your tweet.

  7. SHUT UP! Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman are in town??? Didn't know they were giving a seminar on this. Should we go and throw rotten food at these people?

Actually no, that would be a waste of rotten food.

  8. It's not meant to be offensive.

There's a book called Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs. It teaches wives to respect their husbands above all and husbands to love their wives regardless. Obviously this doesn't apply in cases of abuse, but it's more about love languages and how most men respond to respect while most women respond to love.

  9. @carrisa OHHH. hmm. well, i guess that explains what they were trying to say with the flyer (but holy cow, FAILING MISERABLY). although i think i'm still not really ok with that message, either.

  10. It comes across badly, regardless of (see what I did there?) what it is meant to mean.

Also, what's on her left hand?

  11. Um, wow. This is a very, very poorly thought out ad.

Wow. It is memorable in that it is intelligible and feels WEIRD.

  12. Very strange indeed. I do know that those people are constantly talking about how wives should submit to their husbands to glorify God. I bet it has something to do with that.

  13. If you don't respect me? I don't care if you love me. My "love language"requires both. I would encourage any woman, based on a lot of craziness I've seen, to prioritize both as well.

"But I love you" can have some scary connotations. No thanks.

    YAY MARRIAGE! Neat!

  14. It does sound a bit weird...is it a counseling service, men are far less likely to attend such things so maybe they are trying to empathize with "him" to encourage him to attend...

  15. Carrissa nailed it. But I totally agree, this is the absolute WEIRDEST way to advertise the series. I certainly wouldn't go!
Also, is the female figure wearing an oven mitt or a baseball mitt?

  16. Huh? Whatever that campaign is for, it is the most ineffective ever. No one can understand it.
