#spinstertweets

my cats made out almost better than i did this christmas: they received gifts from 3 different parties over the several days i was home. one such offering was a pair of catnip toys - one for each cat. bella, for whatever reason, has never shown much interest in catnip. it doesn't seem to affect her much. oliver, on the other hand? omfg. it's like he's on cat cocaine. and it's HILARIOUS. he brings the definition of spazzing to a new level.

he DOVE at my hand the second i took the toy out of its wrapper, then instantly began rubbing it on his face and drooling, while rolling around the carpet on his back. he'd then bat the toy away from him, and instead of trotting over to it like normal, would drag himself - still on his back - across the carpet until he could hook it again with a claw. rinse and repeat, for about 3 hours.

and because my parents' friends who gifted the catnip toys have a good sense of humor, and because i am a nerd, i sent them a thank you note... from oliver.

  1. Oh geez, both of mine go insane over catnip. I always have a container on hand of the dried catnip leaves and I sprinkle it on their little scratcher. They first just nibble on it, then they roll their face and head in it, and THEN the crazy starts. They start seeing things that aren't there and chase each other around the apartment. SO funny.

  2. This post and pictures are adorable, but what really makes it is the BRILLIANT TITLE. Definitely made me laugh aloud.

  4. Best title ever. I sort of LOVE the word "spinster".

PS-I usually hate when people tell what their word verification is, but mine is fulease. Just FYI. (awesome)

  6. Love that last pic! My cats on the 'nip are hilarious and quiet entertaining. Do you think we're frying their brains? "This is your brain. This is your brain on catnip."

  7. Alice - my cat (also named Bella), didn't like catnip either. But! She went completely nuts when I gave her a carnation once. (don't ask - it was my husband's idea.)

  8. Hahaha! Oh Oliver, he's such a special cat. :)

p.s. My word verification is "allyce." Different spelling of your name?

  9. Ha ha! I love that message. I wish Data went apeshit for catnip. He likes it, but not in a crazy way like that!

Did I tell you how my mom was worried she didn't get Data the "right gift" so she sent him a $5 Target Gift Card?!

  12. Ah yes! Watching kitties with catnip is about the funniest thing! Coming in a close second: kitties with a laser pointer.

  13. I love when cats freak out over catnip. Oliver is great!

Sunny doesn't know what to do with catnip, but Abby will start rolling around in it and then start making out with random pieces of furniture: "I love you, couch leg," etc.

  17. Ha! Yay!

Mine go intermittently goofy over catnip. Or my sweaty t-shirts. Cats are strange people.

  20. One year for christmas we were going to give the cats these huge dime bags of catnip. We wrapped it up and put it under the tree and everything. Then, on christmas eve we walked into the livingroom to find the package ripped open, and two cats swimming around on the floor in ecstasy. Snotfaces, but god lovem'

  21. My cats also got a GINORMOUS box from my parents.

That I then got to lug home on the plane from Massachusetts.

Next time? Not so many bells, Mom. Kthx.

  22. I AM STARTING A MOVEMENT!

Also, my cats are the same, one could care less about catnip, the other one will try to climb in the cabinet I keep some in.

  23. One of mine is totally into the 'nip and the other couldn't be bothered if it was sprinkled with wet food...

I swear, kitties are strange, strange beings.

  24. My cats are exactly the same way! One of them is interested for, like, a minute, and the other spends HOURS rolling around on his back, rubbing his face against it and clawing things. Hilarious.

    Love the thank you card!
