drums & floods

helllloooo from quarter end! busy busy busy around here, so please excuse the crappy post. i'll try to stick to pictures as much as possible, which can't be ruined with poor grammar...

first off, the drums. there was a lot of concern about where they're living now, and sadly the answer is.... not in my apartment. there's just not a good place to set up a full kit. they were originally going to live in the spare bedroom, when it was going to be a spare bedroom and not a roommate's bedroom, but when that didn't work out they moved to my closet. and when they moved out of the closet, they moved to my storage unit. i'm super lucky because the apartment comes with a whole extra room down the hall, about 10x10, for whatever extra crap i have. which is.. uh.. a lot. like, 20 boxes, a futon, a desk chair, an extra side table, one of those big plastic trunks you take to college, my entire drum kit, and the doors of my closet. hooray storage room!

nextly, the wedding this weekend was freaking phenominal. i love both the bride and groom, which always helps, but they also put on a GREAT party, in a ridiculously gorgeous locale, with delicious food, an open bar, and an officiant who a) couldn't say the groom's name, like, at all, and b) added in some color commentary. like during the vows, the "in richer and poorer, in sickness and in health" part? when saying each phrase for them to repeat, when he got to the last line he got all Creepy and Foreboding and finished with "..until DEEEAATH do you part," giving a huge emphasis to "death" and staring out menacingly at the rest of us while saying it, perhaps to teach us a lesson? STOP DIVORCING BEFORE DEATH, YOU JERKS? i don't know, but it was sort of hilarious.

anyway! he did manage to marry them, which was nice:

and the reception got under way:

aaaand then the rain started.

the real problem was that even though we were all safe and happy inside the (gorgeously-appointed!) tent, it was raining SO HARD that the rain was blowing sideways into the tent through the 2 openings, and completely flooding the grass. please note that there is about an inch and a half of standing water covering the grass, here:

this did not, obviously, stop anyone from having an absolutely brilliant time. everyone there was seriously good people.

excellent times. congratulations, olivia and taz!

  5. I like that - an officiant with a sense of humor. Obviously he wanted to be remembered. Think about how many weddings the dude has probably just said the same old things, and this time he really wanted to, um, make an impact... or something.

In other news: they say it's really good luck to have it rain on your wedding day.

So glad you had a nice time!

  6. So, why hasn't anyone asked whether you're really shitfaced in those pictures? No, I mean (let me put the politically correct hat on) ... you sure look like you're having a great time! :-)

  7. PS - I could use a few party animals like you at my wedding. Are you free that weekend?

  8. What is that movie where the wedding is in a tent and rains tons and tons? Oh, that is going to drive me nuts. Because this is SO that.

  9. On a semi-related note (not being able to say the groom's name), I went to 2 funerals last year, unfortunately, and they were for a father and his (grown) son and were only a few weeks apart. The officiant kept calling the deceased at the second funeral the name of the person who had already had a funeral. The family must have been mortified.

  10. I'm envious of you with your storage room. Having a storage room is my dream. I would never have to throw anything out!

The wedding pictures are fabulous - everyone looks like they're having so much fun.

  11. If I ever get married (ha) I'm getting the officiant to do that "til death" bit. Oh, and "mawwiage" of course.

  12. Beckeye - YES!!! And "Wuv, Tru Wuv shall follwow you all the days of your lives."

I'd have done it at my wedding, but the groom and I would have been the only two laughing.

  13. That is one gorgeous reception tent! And what a downpour - was that from the Nor'easter last weekend?

  14. Well, there will be another TIME and PLACE for the drum kit (just a little Weekly Word Challenge humor, there ; 0 )
Excellent photos of the wedding - so glad everyone had a great time, and nobody was intimidated by the rain. But, wow - one of those shots out of the tent opening has so much standing rain on the grass that at first glance I thought I was looking at wet concrete!

  15. I did not know that you could gt tent chandeliers! It looks like an awesome wedding, aside from the rain of course...

  16. Ok, your recap of the officiant was hilarious. My Grandfather (a retired minister) is going to marry us. He's 84. I'm sure you can guess what MY fear is. Lol. Can you imagine? I love the pictures, and that tent is GORGEOUS. I'm glad you had a good time and your friends got hitched without a flaw.

  17. I see that we got into a little tiff over on Deutlich's blog about abortion. That was me who said Republican leaders don't really want to get rid of abortion. And you disagreed.

    Still friends?
