update

i'm picking oliver up from the Specialist Vet on the way home from work today. to everyone's surprise, when he woke up today his temperature was down to a non-danger level, and he's kept it down even while being weaned off IV fluids for the first time in 3 days. so he gets to come home with me, and fingers crossed that he's over the worst of... you know, whatever this whole thing was, that NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE AS OF YET.. and will make a quick, happy little recovery and we can pretend all this never happened.

i know bella will certainly be ecstatic to see him. she's been cuddling with my head every night in bed because oliver's not around for her to gaze adoringly at. i'm pretty sure her little head is going to explode with joy when i reunite them tonight. i'm bummed that i don't have my canon elph any more, because i'd love to take a video of this tonight - her tiny little 3lb body VIBRATING WITH JOY due to his presence. it's pretty awesome.

thank you all SO SO MUCH for all your sweet supportive thoughts and messages! it must have helped, because lord knows throwing money at the problem didn't seem to actually accomplish much :-)

  2. Yay!!!! I hope he makes a full recovery. If he starts to act sick again, maybe mention to the vet that Little Bella is in the family, now? Maybe that will help shed light on his (hopefully-gone-for-good) condition.

    Thinking of you!

  4. Yay for improvement! Also, what is it with cats and cuddling your head while you sleep? So warm! So uncomfortably warm!

  5. You just reminded me of my two cats. I don't know about yours but my cats play this game where the one will try to blend in with the ground and watch the other one clean itself. Then when it is ready to pounce it will shake its little ass. It is so adorable, the ass shaking.

  10. I'm glad he's better. My dog went through a similar thing 2 years ago and we ended up having to put her to sleep. It was a tough decision but she was in her teens. You can get pet insurance to defray the costs, but it's like $75 a month and we couldn't justify it. We learned that when they are old and sick and don't get better in a day or two, it's time to put them down. It sounds harsh, but $5K is not what a pet is worth.

  18. they still can figure it out?!? send your little friend to the Michigan State Univeristy vet hospital. great diagnostic staff. AND they did some amazing things to a cat that i didn't even think you could do to a human!
